What it is?

Internet Telephony or IP Telephony is a telephone service that is based on VolP technology. IP Telephony is an immediate application of this tecnology, that permits making ordinary phone calls over IP networks or other packet networks by using PC, gateways, standard telephones, or IP telephones.

The basic steps in order to make a call through the Internet are: the conversion of the analogical signal to digital format and signal compression to Internet Protocol (IP) for its transmission. During reception, the inverse process takes place in order for the analogical voice signal to be recovered.

VolP Telephony has been in the market for many years, but its use was not generalized until recently due to the better penetration and lower cost of the broadband and the improvement of tecnologies to guarantee that the service is available and that the quality of the IP calls is equivalent to that of traditional telephony.
